A collective of medicinal herb growers

Our US-based farmers pool tools and labor to grow functional herbs on their own land or harvest from vetted private land.

Lavender harvest

An exploration of new models for sourcing herbs

We are seeking a more sustainable model for increasing the US-grown medicinal herb supply, supporting farmers financially, and keeping herbs affordable.

Microfarming

Farms will be small in size – no one should need to buy land to participate

Collective Marketing

Administrative overhead will be reduced through a group sales portal

You-Pick for Herbalists

We’re exploring collaborating with local herbalists to pick and process their own herbs to reduce labor costs and ensure high quality

2025 Goals

2025 is a year of exploration – who wants to be involved? What do we want to achieve? How will the farms interact? What administrative supports do we want to create?

Bulk Herb Growing

We aim to grow a few pounds of herbs per participating farm and sell them at the Great Lakes Herb Faire in September, 2025. This will give participating farmers a sense of scale in the first year.

Drying Infrastructure

Setting up tools to dry herbs at scale is a major part of an herb farm. This will be an opportunity to build infrastructure.

Administrative Research

We’ll aim to figure out what kinds of business structures, licensing, and regulations will apply to such a business. This will direct next steps, like event planning, financial arrangements, and a website.

Education

We will share information farmer-to-farmer, and possibly also host herb walks for the general public.

Community Harvest Days

We hope to have one or more harvest events where people can pick their own herbs.

Seeking Inspiration

Above all, we are exploring ideas! Let us know your great idea for what Gathered Roots might become!
